The Isuzu D-Max eDL40 is a pick-up that gives nothing away. Built on the same rugged ladder-frame chassis that made the D-Max a byword for dependability, it swaps the diesel engine for a dual-motor electric drivetrain and a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery - without surrendering the one-tonne payload or the 3.5-tonne towing capacity that a working pick-up lives by.

With a motor on each axle, the eDL40 delivers instant torque and full-time four-wheel drive, so it pulls away cleanly on a wet site as confidently as it does on the school run. A 210 mm ground clearance and 600 mm wading depth keep the off-road credentials intact, while four selectable levels of regenerative braking let you claw energy back on every descent.

Inside, the eDL40 is every bit the DL40 you already know: leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a six-speaker sound system and a digital driver display paired with a wireless-connected colour touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bi-LED headlights, LED rear lights and distinctive alloy wheels finish the look.
